Thompson Engineering is proud to announce the creation of the Jake Gibbs Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Civil Engineering at the University of South Alabama. Gibbs, an engineer with Thompson Engineering for 20 years, died in October 2021 after a long illness. “Jake was a loyal alumnus of the University of South Alabama and believed that through engineering, he made communities better,” said CEO John Baker. “We can’t think of a better way to honor his legacy than to help students study the profession he devoted much of his life.”

Gibbs’s contributions and achievements significantly impacted the civil engineering profession and enhanced the quality of life in our local communities and in other parts of the world. He served local municipalities, utility authorities, developers, and military installations, and performed disaster relief and humanitarian aid projects throughout Central and South America as an extension of the U.S. Government and the Army Corps of Engineers.
