Mike Shumaker

Safety Director

In his role as Health & Safety Director, Mike Shumaker is responsible for implementing and maintaining programs, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for Thompson employees and to ensure compliance with governmental rules and regulations.

 

Mike joined Thompson in December 2018. Previously, he worked for Johnson Controls Government Systems as its first Global Health, Safety, and Quality Manager. In that role, Mike developed and implemented project-specific safety and quality strategies for renewable energy projects in the US, Asia, and Europe. Mike has also served as the Safety and Quality Management Director on heavy construction projects on federal sites such as NASA, Army Corps of Engineers, and Department of Energy.

 

Mike maintains BCSP certifications as Certified Safety Professional and Associate Safety Professional and IBFCSM certifications as Certified Hazard Control Manager and Certified Healthcare Safety Professional both at Master level. He is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals, Society of American Military Engineers and American Society for Quality. He is also an OSHA Authorized Outreach Instructor for both Construction and General Industries.

 

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Training and Development from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. A retired Army veteran, Mike contributes to the Wounded Warrior Project and volunteers for projects that advance community safety and environmental protection causes.
