Buildings on the BASF plant in McIntosh, Alabama were experiencing moisture intrusion. BASF knew there were issues with roofs and exterior vertical wall components, but they were unsure of component conditions and the specific moisture intrusion points.
Thompson Engineering was hired to provide a building envelope assessment of four buildings ranging in purpose, size, location, and materials. The assessments included vertical and horizontal waterproofing applications to determine multiple items including the cause of the leaks. Following the assessments, Thompson categorized the buildings in order of remediation need. A report cataloging field observations, component conditions, conclusive statements, and testing recommendations was prepared for the client.
Thompson Engineering’s assessments and testing recommendations led to subsequent phases of the project, including failure analysis spray testing to identify deficient areas in the buildings’ vertical and horizontal applications along with a recommended scope-of-work documentation.
