In 2014, Thompson Engineering was one of the first contractors on the site of a large LNG liquefaction project. As the geotechnical engineer on a design-build team, Thompson was responsible for rubble-mound shoreline stabilization to protect against erosive effects of passing ships.
Since that initial involvement, Thompson Engineering has performed numerous civil and structural design, geophysical, and materials engineering services, as well as construction quality assurance and construction materials testing services for the export facility. Thompson also served as a prime construction sub-contractor for two impoundment basins.
Thompson has provided creative value engineering design and construction solutions to challenging site conditions, foundation support, and site development issues, including the following planning, design, and construction efforts. Geotechnical Investigations, assessments and related reports and guidance document preparation for multiple Facility Trains and for all ancillary structures.
- Value engineering design for effective cost savings and improved performance foundation systems for facilities support.
- Geophysical and seismic design evaluations
- Deep foundation and braced excavation geo/structural designs
- Ground improvement table top and civil designs and monitoring of soil treatment/stability upgrades and accelerated pre-consolidation programs.
- Blast and explosion/impact evaluation of existing structures.
- Vibration monitoring.
- Quality assurance/CQC monitoring and testing of site soils and structural concrete.
- On-call construction engineering and construction phase geotechnical and structural design problem analysis and solutions development.
- Coordination with and reporting to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), acting on behalf of the project team, as Geotechnical and Engineer of Record and the Third Party Quality Assurance professional.
- Design and Construct two impoundment basins for emergency LNG overflow.
