Resiliency Park Master Plan

Thompson Engineering and affiliated company Watermark Design Group assisted the City of Semmes to administer a FEMA grant used to produce a master plan for the Semmes Resiliency Park. This park will act as a recreational space with basketball courts, a playground, walking trails, and an open recreation field, while housing necessary municipal services and infrastructure, such as a fire station, a safe room, an EMS substation, and a community center/evacuation shelter.

The park shall implement safety precautions via an emergency services access gate and addresses environmental concerns by maintaining a minimum of a thirty-foot buffer between the park and adjacent uses. Pervious pavers in parking areas and a recreational retention pond will help contain the site’s stormwater. Precedent images were provided to the city to give a basic understanding of the overall design aesthetic and functionality.
