WALMART DISTRIBUTION CENTER

Thompson Engineering provided environmental compliance services during the construction of the Walmart Distribution Center in Irvington, Alabama. The Walmart Distribution Center is a logistical hub serving around 800 of Walmart’s 4,600 U.S. stores.

At 400 acres, the construction area for the distribution center was very large and included jurisdictional streams that would be filled. The area of disturbance combined with the hydrology of the site meant that proper stormwater management and erosion prevention principles were incredibly important in order to comply with state and federal clean water regulations.

Thompson Engineering’s knowledge of the compliance process, as well as its knowledge of local climatic and soil conditions, allowed for uninterrupted construction. As required by Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), our work included a pre-construction inspection; during-construction inspections to evaluate the effectiveness of site best management practices (BMPs); and a final closeout inspection. Additionally, increased coordination efforts with ADEM eliminated the potential for unexpected regulatory interruptions.
