Von Braun III

Located at Redstone Arsenal in north Alabama, the United States Army Corps of Engineers Von Braun III Resident Office is a $217 million, multi-story office building that houses personnel supporting the Missile Defense Agency and the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command. Thompson Engineering provided construction management services during the span of the project, including bid and construction reviews, preparation of contract documents and analysis, review of contractor submittals, shop drawing reviews, and construction inspection and quality assurance documentation.

At project completion, Redstone Arsenal was outfitted with an office space built with reinforced concrete and structural steel with pre-cast wall panels and a built-up roof. The building meets functional area requirements such as sensitive compartmentalized information facilities; test data storage and analysis area; a technical library; meeting, training, and administrative areas; and break rooms and storage areas. User-friendly features include a physical fitness center and covered walkways between facilities.

Thompson also oversaw the construction of a central mechanical plant containing boilers, chillers, electrical systems, fire pumps and generators. Supporting facilities include water, domestic and standby storm sewers, gas and electric services, fire protection and alarm systems, telecommunications, parking, sidewalks, street lighting and landscaping.
